Artist Statement

During my artistic activity, art has always flourished in the deep bond between memories and my surroundings. Following this mental concern, I created some painting series which were the result of inner exploration in the spaces leftover from those memories; deep memories that undoubtedly had a profound impact on my subconscious mind. Afterward, deeper connections were formed when I was engaged in studying theoretical topics. It was during this period that studying Judith Butler and Julian Young's artworks besides the importance of femininity notably nurtured my mindset. It was no longer possible for me to create a painting without contemplating on social contexts, therefore, I tried to make a strong connection between all my preoccupations. Eventually, I found the peak of its enrichment in the relationship between man and nature. Since then, my main concern as a female artist has been to discover the relationship between nature and human essence, especially women. Hence, I have not confined myself to a single artistic medium, since representing it has required interdisciplinary thinking to fulfill my goal.

As a female artist, I have always believed the power that exists in human beings, especially women, and is often ignored or suppressed in Eastern patriarchal societies, is closely related to the hidden power of nature. In search of these similarities and differences, I studied the events and flows that occur in nature in cases such as sudden volcanic eruptions or earthquakes. I did more research in this area, and the results of these studies led to series like "Eruption". This series was commenced in 2019, using mediums such as painting, installation, and video art; like the last exhibition that I had in the "Path Project" in 2021, a project that took place on a site that was to be demolished. In this exhibition, following the experience of destruction in representing a fake volcanic eruption, I performed an installation. In this way, I was also inspired by many artists, especially female artists who have worked in this field. There was an artist like Kiki Smith whose subjects are human beings, their relationship with nature and the environment, issues related to the human body, life, and death. Studying her works has helped me to explore this relationship in my artworks.

To continue gaining such experiences as well as expanding my artworks, I seek to discover new paths using interdisciplinary fields. In this way, I can expand my expressions boundaries and gain new expertise in the field of contemporary art through practicing various media.
